Three Possible Ways of Setting Up Your Boundaries

Teachers will often use one of the following three techniques to set up their classroom boundaries. Each technique has a slightly different focus but it will ultimately come down to a teachers style as to which technique they use. The examples below deal with the one area of arriving to class on time. A teacher might have up to ten expectations, rules or positive behavioral statements, depending on which technique they choose to use.

1)      Positive expectation: I expect you to come to class on time.

2)     Rule: Do not come to class late.

3)      Positive behavioral statement: As a class we will endeavor to arrive on time.
